Wage compensations to be provided from the first day of incapacity for work

20/3/2019

The President of the Republic has signed the draft amendment to the Labour Code, as approved by the Chamber of Deputies for the second time after being rejected in the Senate. With effect from 1 July 2019, the waiting period associated with the temporary incapacity for work is abolished. Employees will thus also be entitled to a wage compensation for the first three days of their temporary incapacity for work, up to the first 24 unworked hours of scheduled shifts. To compensate for that, the employers’ social security contribution rate will be reduced from 25 % to 24.8 % of the tax base, this difference being in line with the current rate of lowering sickness insurance contributions by the employer.
